AAA Greenlight Initiative “Green Machines”

As part of its commitment to highlighting the future of the automobile, AAA of Northern California is featuring ten alternative fuel vehicles at the special “Green Machines” display at the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show on Sunday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Half Moon Bay Airport

“Many people are taking the future of alternative fuels into their own hands and converting their cars without the help of auto manufacturers,” said AAA of Northern California spokesperson Jenny Mack. “The vehicles on display will highlight some of these ‘homemade’ conversions as well as cutting edge technology from automakers.”

“Green Machines” on display will include:

  • a 100+ mpg Toyota Prius plug-in conversion from CalCars

  • a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta TDI that runs on vegetable oil and biodiesel

  • a 2004 GMC Top Kick Diesel Truck with a 100-gallon auxiliary tank for rice oil

  • prototype Kia Sportage and Ford Focus hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from California Air Resources Board

  • AC Propulsion's eBox, a battery plug-in electric conversion of a Toyota Scion xB

  • a San Francisco Police Department patrol car that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG)

  • a 2007 Honda Civic GX CNG, which the EPA called the “cleanest internal-combustion vehicle on earth”

  • a Toyota Prius from AAA’s converted fleet of more than 300 hybrids

This is your chance to look under the hoods of these vehicles and find out where the plug-in’s extra batteries are stored or how a two-tank fuel system works. You can also find where the alternative fueling stations are in your area. Experts will be on hand throughout the day to answer your questions and talk about the latest alternative fuel technology.

With dependence on oil continuing to grow, interest in alternative fuels has never been stronger. AAA of Northern California has identified a new chapter in the history of the automobile and is working to help consumers make sense of all the new options becoming available.

AAA was founded to help automobile owners get where they wanted to go with greater comfort, safety and convenience. Now the automobile is entering a new era, and we are taking the lead once again. With our Greenlight Initiative, AAA seeks to be your one-stop source for information on alternative fuels and vehicles.

AAA of Northern California offers a wide array of automotive, travel, insurance, financial services and consumer discounts to more than 4 million members. AAA has been a leader and advocate for the safety and security of all travelers since it was founded more than 100 years ago.
