Dream Machines steps up the excitement meter with three Freestyle Motocross performances by HiRise FMX
|
Experience firsthand the jaw-dropping thrills of freestyle motocross at the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show on Sunday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Half Moon Bay Airport.
For the first time in the show’s 18-year history, the exhibition arena will be transformed into a motocross playground where 21-year-old expert riders Nick Dunne and his partner Jesse Jolson of HiRise FMX will show off their jaw-dropping stunts high above the crowds.
Freestyle motocross, also known as FMX, emerged from the sport of motocross racing and has become one of the fastest growing high-adrenaline sports of the new millennium.
Thousands tune in to events like the X-Games to watch these daredevils perform their thrilling and death-defying stunts while sailing up to 150 feet through the air.
These crazy stunts have even crazier names, like the Kiss of Death, where the rider holds the bike vertically and kicks his legs above his head, or the Lazy Boy, where the rider puts his legs under the handlebars and lies back on the seat with his hands behind his head.
This year at Dream Machines, Dunne and Jolson will stoke up the crowds with classic stunts like the heal clicker, rock solids, Indian airs, superman, the Hart attack, and that gold standard of FMX excitement, the back flip.
“People are going to be totally awe-struck when they see the back flip in real life,” says Dunne, who has been riding motorbikes since the age of 3. “When people come to the show, they are going to see high-flying action like they’ve never seen before.”
These professionals make it all look so easy, but even with the protective gear and hours upon hours of practice, FMX is a dangerous sport. Broken bones are par for the course for both riders, and Dunne once busted his chin wide open on a spill.
But this pair of adrenaline junkies wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It feels like we are actually living our dreams,” says Dunne. “We like to go big.”
The HiRise FMX exhibitions are scheduled to take place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
