Kick It Up Notch

Monster-Air Jumps and Stunts

Don’t even think about missing the daring jumps, unreal twists, mind-blowing back flips and monster air at the FMX shows.

FMX shows run about 20-minutes each in length.
Performances are scheduled for 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Freestyle motocross (aka FMX), a real fan favorite at the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show, is kicking it up a notch in 2012.

And with the addition of dual ramps, this year's breath-taking FMX performances promise twice the thrills, twice the awe-inspiring chills, and, dare we say, bigger air than ever.

Adding a second take-off ramp and second landing ramp means that spectators will get to see non-stop action and excitement, with bikes and riders soaring through the air doing back flips side by side at a furious pace.

Like the spectacular tricks that characterize freestyle snowboarding, FMX is the daredevil cousin to motocross riding.

“Back in the day, a few of the motocross hotdogs came up with the idea of doing some sort of stunt as they crossed the finish line, all in hopes that some photographer would snap a great shot that would land on the cover of a magazine,” explains John Borba, whose world-renowned WGAS Motorsports will bring FMX to this year’s Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show, April 28-29 at Half Moon Bay Airport.

FMX has now morphed into one of the most popular sports in the world, in which daring jumps, twists and mind-blowing back flips are just part of a day's work.

Asked what it takes to become the kind of rider who can execute a 360° back flip on a full-sized hunk of metal and motor, Borba laughs.

“You need the memory of an elephant, the body control and fitness of an Olympic gymnast, and, finally, the stones of a bull rider.”

As an afterthought, Borba adds that it’s good to be young.

Young they may be, but WGAS's riders are all experienced athletes known throughout the FMX world for their skill and daring.

Returning this year will be world-class riders Jeff Griffin of Bakersfield and Nick Dunne of Red Bluff. Dunne is a photo favorite for his "Captain Morgan" trick, in which he strikes a pose atop his motorcycle while suspended in mid-air.

Joining Dunne and Griffin will be Julian Dusseau, an elite rider who travels the world as a member of Metal Militia.

A fourth rider, Garrett Ahlf, just added a back-flip to his roster of tricks. He is also known for his incredible extensions that give the illusion he is hanging in air.

"Every one of these riders has something unique and spectacular to offer," says Borba, "so make sure you bring your cameras."
