The Froghopper Mobile Rock climbing wall

What a feeling! Kids of all ages will go bonkers over the non-stop action and excitement in Kids’ Playland at the Millbrae Art & Wine Festival, September 1-2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Broadway. Located at the festival’s north end, at Broadway and Meadow Glen, the amusements for youngsters of all ages will include everything from nostalgic carnival rides and super cool face painting to a 24-foot climbing wall and choo-choo train rides.

Kids and adults alike will enjoy Mobile Rock’s menacing 24-foot Climbing Wall where trained climbing technicians will be available to show you the ropes. The wall is color coded to assist climbers, from the youngest to the most advanced, make it to the to the top.

Festival fave Linda Vogel is hands-down the best face painter around. She uses a water-based paint “that doesn’t stain”, offering dozens of unique face painting designs. You can tell by the line that forms in front that this is one popular booth.

“Gentle George” D’Olivo is a kid’s best friend. His company, Classic Amusements, provides exciting rides, games and concessions for special events throughout the West. D’Olivo’s well-maintained equipment, friendly staff and selection of sought-after attractions have turned the Millbrae Art & Wine Festival into a “can’t miss” event for families. “Bring out the whole family,” said D’Olivo. “It’s the best family entertainment value around.” Tickets are $1 a piece and most of the rides charge 3 tickets. Discounts are available based on the number of tickets you buy.

Who’s the next Lincecum? Take a windup, throw your best fastball and see the radar gun reading on “Speed Pitch”. Returning are smash hits including the Dixieland Twister, a 10-seat mechanical speed swing, and Zoom, a true piece of Americana — it’s the actual ride, fully restored, that appeared in the legendary 1978 movie Grease. The completely refurbished Froghopper, a longtime favorite, is a guaranteed tummy tickler, taking riders 25’ in the air and bounce dropping them like a frog. Hit the high seas and feel the waves on the Mini Rockin’ Tugboat ride. Strap yourself in the Berry-Go-Round ride, turn the wheel and see how fast and loud you can twist and shout. Get ready for lift-off on the exciting Helicopter ride. Take dead aim, shoot the clown, blow up the balloon and win a fabulous prize at Water Gun Races. At The Great Crab Grab, contestants toss a ping-pong ball into a fishbowl — accurate tossers win and take home live hermit crabs, a cool critter companion! Jump for joy on one-of-a-kind themed inflatibles and bouncers. Kids love their colorful appearance and boundless excitement. The bouncers are forced-air inflated with soft “pillow” flooring and walls for maximum safety. There’s the Dr. Seuss-inspired Cat-In-The Hat bounce house, the ferocious Saber Tooth Tiger monster slide, and Alcatraz, the most awesome inflatable obstacle course ever! Two people start out in different cell blocks and then, they race through as they try to see who will escape "The Rock" first. Lots of climbing, squeeze throughs, tunnels and sliding as the prisoners make their way to the final obstacle, running right through the legs of the 20 foot tall security guard! The cell blocks inside are made for photo opportunities. You can take pictures of your "prisoners" through the bars before they try their daring escape.

“The People Painters” always delight the crowd with temporary tattoos and airbrush face painting. Children love colorful hearts, flowers, lizards and rainbows. Dare to be different with a lower back tattoo or a temporary dragon!

Participating in the festival for the first time is Feather Headed Friendzy, the Bay Area’s premier maker of feather hair extensions. They have the largest selection of feather styles in the Bay Area with over 200 feather colors and lengths.  Feather hair extensions are colorful feathers that are placed in the hair with a silicone lined extension bead, can stay in for months at a time, and are treated just like hair (can be washed, blow dried, flat ironed, go in the pool etc). They come in all colors, lengths, and widths and look great on eveyone (even dogs — check out their Pooch Plumes)!
