“Mountain View has many civic, public safety and military personnel working and living in our city,” said Oscar Garcia, President/CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Mountain View. “They are our friends, neighbors and colleagues. We want to take time out during the festival to recognize and honor the dedication, contributions and sacrifices that these men and women make to keep our city and nation safe.” |
Ten years ago, it was a day that changed the history of the United States and the hearts of its people. A day we will never forget — the World Trade Center attacks, thousands of innocent civilians killed, and the unforgettable bravery of firefighters, police officers and military personnel who lost their lives trying to protect our country.
To honor the heroes of 9/11, the Chamber of Commerce Mountain View has organized a special 10-year remembrance ceremony as part of this year’s Mountain View Art & Wine Festival.
The ceremony and related events will all take place on Sunday, September 9.
At 10 a.m., when the festival opens, there will be a moment of silence to last for one minute.
At 11 a.m., Mountain View police officers, firefighters and Boy Scouts will join members of the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard in a procession down Mercy Street, with a group starting at Hope Street and another group starting at Bryant Street. They will converge at Mercy and Castro and proceed together to Civic Center Plaza.
There will be an assembly of the military units, a singing of the National Anthem by students from the Community School of Music and Arts, followed by a short lineup of speakers. The ceremony concludes with the lowering of the American flag while the audience reflects together during a moment of silence to pay tribute to the public service men and women who lost their lives.
