The world-famous Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, in association with the Coastal Arts League, is launching its second annual Poster Design Contest to select an identity for the 2008 festival. Graphic artists from across the country will have a high-profile opportunity to showcase their talent by entering the contest. The winning entry will receive $1,000 as well as the honor of having their design featured as the centerpiece on all promotional material for the prestigious festival held every October in the World Pumpkin Capital of Half Moon Bay.

Last year’s inaugural contest drew more than 50 outstanding entries from several states and organizers look forward to building on its success. “The quality of work and number of entries exceeded our expectations,” said Shirley Kellicutt, member of the Coastal Arts League and chair of the contest committee. “One of the most exciting things was the People’s Choice Award. We had over 500 people come through the Coastal Arts League gallery during Pumpkin Festival to vote on their favorite design. We were thrilled to see that kind of community involvement an enthusiasm.”

The contest is open to all interested parties, particularly art students, professional artists and graphic designers due to the detailed production specifications required. In addition to the $1,000 top prize for the winning entry, there will also be a $500 award for second place, $250 for third, and $125 for both fourth and fifth. The “Peoples Choice” winner will receive $100.

Accepted entries will be on display as part of a special show during the month of October 2007, which includes Pumpkin Festival weekend (October 18-19), at the Coastal Arts League Gallery, 300 Main Street in Half Moon Bay.
