Coveted Keepsake: Photos with Grand Champion Gourd
Proceeds Benefit the Cabrillo Education Foundation
How often do you get to see and touch a hard-to-believe, larger-than-life 1,500-pound pumpkin let alone get to have your photo taken alongside something so unusual? At this year’s Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, October 13-14, you can do both.
Using state-of-the-art printers and computers, your photo will be snapped, then instantly printed into a cardstock frame for a special take-home keepsake. The cost is $14 per framed 5x7 picture. All proceeds benefit the Cabrillo Education Foundation, a non-profit 501 ( c ) 3 tax-exempt organization, that operates independent of the Cabrillo Unified School District for the sole benefit of the students attending our local Coastside public schools. In carrying out its mission, the Cabrillo Education Foundation is committed to enriching educational excellence in our local public schools through fundraising and community out reach.
CEF was founded in 2003 and is a community organization dedicated to closing the gap between an increasingly expensive high-quality education and existing public funding. Since our inception we have raised over $2,620,740 in donations.
CEF has focused its efforts on both raising funds for immediate use and building an endowment fund. In the last seven years CEF has distributed $580,275 immediate use dollars to schools within the Cabrillo Unified School District. “Because of the generous support of our community we already have over $2.2M in our Endowment Fund and will make the first distribution from the endowment fund in 2012,” said Christine Mendonca, President of the Cabrillo Education Foundation. This year’s photo booth is made possible by the generous support of Silicon Valley Community Foundation. “We believe all students should have the opportunity to succeed in school," said Emmett D. Carson, Ph.D., CEO and president. "We have supported programs in coastside schools through our grantmaking strategies, and in the past five years, have helped more than 6,000 students in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties get after-school or summer math instruction. We are honored to support the work of the Cabrillo Education Foundation as a sponsor of this year's Giant Pumpkin Photo Booth."
Serving all of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, the community foundation has more than $2 billion in assets under management and more than 1,500 philanthropic funds. The community foundation provides grants through donor advised and corporate funds in addition to its own endowment funds. The community foundation serves as a regional center for philanthropy, providing donors simple and effective ways to give locally and around the world.
