GIANT PUMPKIN PHOTOS

Photos with Grand Champion Gourd

Benefits the Cabrillo Education Foundation

NOTE: Content below is from 2009 event. Check back 3-4 weeks before the event for updated information.

How often do you get to see and touch a massive, Volkswagen-sized 1,200-pound pumpkin let alone get to have your photo taken alongside something so unusual? At this year’s Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, October 16-17, you can do both.

Using state-of-the-art printers and computers, your photo will be snapped, then instantly printed into a cardstock frame for a special take-home keepsake. The cost is $12 per framed 5x7 picture. All proceeds benefit the Cabrillo Education Foundation, a non-profit 501 ( c ) 3 tax-exempt organization, that operates independent of the Cabrillo Unified School District for the sole benefit of the students attending our local Coastside public schools. In carrying out its mission, the Cabrillo Education Foundation is committed to enriching educational excellence in our local public schools through fundraising and community out reach.

Established in 2003 the Cabrillo Education Foundation (CEF) was founded by community members who recognized that the quality of our educational system and the vitality of our community are inexorably intertwined. Since its inception the Foundation has raised more than $1.8 million in donations.

CEF has focused its efforts on both raising funds for immediate use and building an endowment fund. In the last five years CEF has distributed $368,970 immediate use dollars to schools within the Cabrillo Unified School District. “Because of the generous support of our community we already have over $1 million in our Endowment Fund,” said Christine Mendonca, President of the Cabrillo Education Foundation. To find out more about volunteer opportunities, programs, events and our Endowment Fund, please visit http://www.ceffund.org.

This year’s photo booth is made possible by the generous support of Silicon Valley Community Foundation. “At Silicon Valley Community Foundation, we also believe in the power of education," said Emmett D. Carson, Ph.D., CEO and president. "Through our grantmaking, we have supported mathematics programs in coastside schools and we are honored to support the work of the Cabrillo Education Foundation as the sponsor of this year's photo booth."

Serving all of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, the community foundation has $1.5 billion in assets under management and 1,500 philanthropic funds. The community foundation provides grants through donor advised and corporate funds in addition to its own Community Endowment Fund. In addition, the community foundation serves as a regional center for philanthropy, providing donors simple and effective ways to give locally and around the world.
